We have been back from our trip to California for a few days now. Boy, am I exhausted! It was a 7 hour drive, plus a few stops. The drive wasn’t too bad…or too pretty. When we entered California, Ryan and I expected to see palm trees and beautiful sites. Instead, we saw deserted land, dying palm trees, and lots of sand. It wasn’t until we reached our destination that we saw the California we were expecting.
This trip was a total of 4 days, including driving. So, it kind of felt like a bunch of traveling, two days of busy fun, and then a bunch more traveling. I never thought we would be this spontaneous with two little ones but I am really enjoying it! This summer has held lots of traveling and some spontaneity. I have always felt like a spontaneous person but figured motherhood would take that away. Turns out, we are still a get-up-and-go sort of family! And I love it!
Our travel days went surprisingly well! I tend to expect our trips to go horribly and our children to travel terribly. I guess it works out in the end because they always do better than what I imagined! This trip was no different. Myra and Vivian did so well on this trip! Myra watched lots of shows on the iPad, played with some toys, read a few books, and even took a little nap. Vivian fussed for maybe 2 minutes, ate very well, and slept pretty much the whole time! It was probably our best trip with 2 kids, so far!
I am going to share our trip with you in a few parts. That way I can show you lots of pictures! (pictures are my favorite part!) After arriving at our hotel, we went for a swim in the hotel pool. Really, I should say pools. There was a wading pool, a larger deeper pool, and a hot tub. We tried them all! Myra and Vivian loved the kiddie pool. It was so small and perfect for little kids. It was shallow enough for Vivian to stand and Myra was able to swim by herself.
After we finished swimming and got cleaned up, we headed to Downtown Disney. It is actually really neat! This is a free section of Disneyland that anyone can enter without a ticket! It is a great place to walk around, shop, and get some food.
I just can’t seem to get these girls smiling at the same time in the same picture! Anyone have any awesome photo shopping skills? I just might need them!
I’m not sure what Vivian is doing but I love it! How about those teeth?!
We weren’t sure how Myra was going to react to all the Disneyland stuff, but she ended up being a lot of fun! It was cool to see her point out all of the things that excited her. I’m pretty sure she noticed every single Minnie Mouse!
We grabbed some sandwiches for dinner from Earl of Sandwich. Apparently, it has the world’s greatest hot sandwich! I got a wrap so I can’t vouch for the sandwiches but it sure was delicious!
After dinner, we spent the evening just walking around and enjoying the atmosphere of Disneyland (and of course, some icecream). It definitely made us excited for our upcoming day in the park!
Our hotel was just a few blocks away, which was a lovely walk to and from Disneyland. Our hotel, by the way, was castle themed. So, we told Myra we were going to her castle. She loved it! It made her feel like a princess!
So, that was our first day in California! Next up, Huntington Beach! Stay tuned!
