Local Living: Tonto Natural Bridge

Tonto Natural Bridge - Sweetly Tattered

We are always looking for outdoor places to explore in our area. We had heard about this natural bridge for a while but never got around to going. Finally, one gloomy day, we decided to just go! It was a 45 minute drive from our house along gorgeous, winding roads. The dark clouds loomed overhead and we saw some lightening in the distance, but we decided to take the risk anyway!

I am so glad we decided to go! It was stunning! There are many natural bridges that I have heard of, but never seen in person. Tonto Natural Bridge is believed to be the largest natural travertine bridge in the world! How cool is that? It is well kept with trails and viewpoints, for the best views of the bridge. There are some hikes that go right into the cave, some places to swim, and even a cute little gift shop!

We each had a daughter strapped to our bodies, so we weren’t able to go into the 150 foot wide, 183 feet high cave. We did take a short hike down to the bottom where we got to see below the bridge. Natural bridges are really neat! If you ever have a chance to hike a natural bridge or just take a look, you should! Just another one of God’s displays of glory! Here are some more pictures of our time at the natural bridge!

I hope you get to experience a sight like this. It is truly an amazing experience to be able to drive down the road to such a beautiful place! We are blessed.

Have you gone to a natural bridge before? What are some of your favorite nature spots?

P.S. Our trip to the Grand Canyon and A Day Willow Springs Lake

  1. Tonto Natural Bridge State Park is run by the state and so they have some very strict rules in place including NO DOGS ON THE TRAILS. So to all you canine owners, this is a hike that you will want to leave Fido at home for because hiking the trails is a must in order to experience the true magic of the natural bridge.
